Quezon Bridge Manila (3/12 Mar 2012)

Quezon bridge was originally called the Puente de Claveria. It is the first suspension bridge in South East Asia. Later on the bridge was called "Puente Colgante" Spanish for "Hanging bridge". This bridge connects Quiapo and Erminta over the famous Pasig River in the Philippines. I learned that this bridge has been reconstructed several times. Which, I guess, explains the conflicting historical facts. A lot of documents say that the original structure, Puente de Claveria, was designed by a Basque engineer Matias Menchacatorre and was later on replaced by a new steel bridge believed to be the work of the Great Gustav Eiffel.

It is amazing how we can build complex and beautiful structures like this yet forget the artist behind it. This is the frustrating lesson I learned investigating the History of this bridge. One thing is for sure... Quezon bridge is a master piece of someone great.

While I was shooting the Quezon bridge. I noticed some kids jumping off from the bridge. I approached the group and began shooting their jumps. One kid in particular asked me to take a photo of him jumping off from the highest beam of the bridge. Dangerous!!!
